SECTION 11
PERSONAL APPEARANCE, UNIFORMS, AND EQUIPMENT
Personal cleanliness and good grooming are a must for JROTC cadets at all times. For more in-depth details on appearance please refer to AR 145-2.
11.1 Clothing.
All clothing must conform to the Rossview High School dress code.
· Females may have no more than one earring on each ear in the JROTC classroom/activities.
· Males are not permitted to wear earrings in JROTC classroom/activities or in uniform.
· No body piercing should be visible at any time (other than ears for females).
· No civilian headgear of any type is permitted.
· No electronic devices are permitted (headphones, CD players, etc.)
· Undergarments should be worn but not visible.
· Pants must be fitted at the natural waist.
· Shorts must be one inch below the fingertips.
· Skirts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
· No fishnet stockings or thigh-high stockings are allowed.
11.2 Hair Styles
· The choice of hairstyle is an individual decision. There are a wide variety of hairstyles that, if maintained in a neat manner, are acceptable. Haircuts for male cadets, without reference to style, must conform to the following standards, in order to receive a passing grade:
o The hair on top of the head will be neatly trimmed and not of an excessive length. The hair will not be allowed to fall over the eyebrows.
o The sides and back will be trimmed and tapered, but need not be shaven or excessively clipped; however, it will not touch the collar or ears.
o If male cadets desire to wear sideburns, they will be neatly trimmed and evenly tapered, with a clean shaven line and no flare at the base, and they will not extend below the bottom part of the ear canal opening.
· Beards are not authorized. Mustaches will not exceed the standards authorized by the Army regulations (beyond the corner of the mouth and below the corner of the lips).
· Hairstyles for female cadets, without reference to style, must conform to the following standards in order to receive a passing grade on uniform inspections.
· Hair should be worn in such a manner that it is off the collar in the back and not allowed to fall over the eyebrows in the front. When gathering long hair in the back, hair twists should be restricted to black or dark brown. Hair style will not hinder in the proper wear of military headgear.
11.3 Uniforms.
11.3.1 The Army JROTC Class A and B uniform are more than suits of clothing. They are symbols of honor, tradition, and achievement. Good appearance and proper conduct while in uniform is an indication of self-respect, pride, alertness, and loyalty.
· The uniform and required equipment is furnished on a loan basis to each cadet. Cadets are responsible for the condition of these items and for the proper return of all items issued at the end of the school year. There are no charges for the use of the uniforms and equipment, provided all items are turned in at the end of the school year or when a cadet is disenrolled from the JROTC Program.
· Cost of cleaning, laundry, and normal maintenance of uniforms will be the responsibility of the cadet while the uniform is in their possession. All uniforms will be dry cleaned prior to turn-in at end of the school year. Instructors may waive this responsibility on a case by case basis depending on the extenuating circumstances of a cadet’s given situation.
· Army uniforms require frequent brushing and should be pressed before scheduled wear. The Army uniform must be dry cleaned and should never be washed, as this will ruin the uniform.
· On the designated uniform day, Cadets are required to wear the uniform during the entire school day—not solely during the JROTC class period.
· All cadets are required to purchase and maintain a red RHS JROTC beret with gold flash. Replacement berets can be purchased from the battalion S4 or SAI/AI.
11.3.2 Class A, B, and Army Combat Uniform (ACU) will be issued on the following basis:
· All LET 2 cadets will be issued and authorized to wear the complete Class A uniform and all associated items at all JROTC activities requiring uniform wear.
· LET 1 Drill Team members in good standing will be issued and authorized to wear the complete Class A uniform and all associated items at all JROTC activities requiring uniform wear.
· LET 1 Raider Team members in good standing will be issued and authorized to wear the complete Class A uniform and associated items and the complete ACU and all associated items as designated.
· All LET 1 cadets will be issued and authorized to wear the Class B Uniform and all associated items at all JROTC activities requiring uniform wear.
· On a case by case basis as decided by the SAI/AI, selected LET 1 cadets who do not meet the above requirements for authorization to wear the Class A uniform may be issued and authorized wear of the Class A uniform based on their involvement in activities and opportunities to positively represent Rossview High School and Army JROTC.
11.3.3 Physical Training (PT) Uniform All cadets will conduct physical training in the Rossview High School JROTC PT in uniform. The PT uniform is black or dark blue gym shorts/sweats and the red RHS JROTC T-shirt. Cadets are authorized to supplement their PT uniforms with additional clothing if environmental conditions warrant additional clothing i.e. gray RHS JROTC hoodie, black gloves, black knit caps, sweatshirts, gloves, knit caps. Cadets will strive to keep additional clothing as closely aligned with original uniforms/colors as possible by using black (shorts/sweat pants/gloves/knit caps) and red (sweat shirts) when able. All cadets are required to purchase and maintain a red RHS JROTC T-shirt. Replacement or additional T-shirts can be purchased from the battalion S4 or SAI/AI.
