SECTION 1

GENERAL PROVISIONS

 

1.1  Authority.  The Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps is usually referred to by its short title, Junior ROTC or JROTC, and it was organized under authority of the National Defense Act of 1916.  The most recent amendments concerning JROTC are contained in Public Law 88-647, 88th Congress, dated 13 October 1964, under the title of “The Reserve Officers Training Corps Vitalization Act of  1964.”  Current law and statuary provisions under which the Department of Army and Navy provide instruction to high school students is Title 10, United States Code, Chapter 102.

1.2  Purpose.  The purpose of this SOP is to supplement and work in concert with the Red River Brigade SOP with revisions.  Both the Red River Brigade SOP and this SOP are developed from applicable Army regulations and CMCSS policies, and will serve as the basic references for all Hawk Battalion operations.

1.3    Mission.  The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens.

1.4  Objectives.  The objectives of the JROTC Program are to:

·                    Develop life-long leadership skills.

·                    Develop informed and responsible citizens.

·                    Strengthen character.

·                    Develop self-discipline, responsibility, and a positive response to constituted authority.

·                    Develop the ability to logically arrange thought and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

·                    Develop an appreciation of the values of physical and mental fitness.

·                    Develop the basic skills necessary to work effectively as a member of a team.

·          Provide the motivation and the life skills necessary to graduate from high school.
